Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah Bin Che Othman was appointed as Group Chairman for UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd effective November 1, 2017.

Previously, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah served as the President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (“PNB”) for almost 2 decades before retiring on 30 September 2016. During his 37-year career with PNB, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah had been involved in various facets of PNB’s operations, including investment & portfolio management, real estate, corporate finance & restructuring and unit trust management.

Under his watch, PNB has grown tremendously, as seen in the almost seven-fold increase in its Asset Under Management from RM41 billion when he took office to RM265 billion as at August 31, 2016, and delivering value creation to more than 12 million unit holders in the form of cumulative income and bonus distribution of RM123.5 billion since 1998. Under his leadership, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad had also expanded PNB’s global footprint by opening international offices in major financial capitals such as London, Tokyo, Singapore and New York. PNB has also become a formidable real estate player on the global scene, with multi-billion ringgit acquisitions of landmark commercial buildings in the United Kingdom and Australia.

A well-respected corporate leader, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah had also served on various boards of Malaysia’s largest corporations throughout his career, among others, as Deputy Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad, Chairman of Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad and Sime UEP Properties Berhad, as well as a director of MNRB Holdings Berhad and Titan Chemicals Corporation Berhad. On the international front, he previously served as the Chairman of Singapore Unit Trust Limited, PNB Asset Management  (Japan) Co Ltd., as well as a director of PNB (UK) Limited, PNB-Wasserstein Holdings LLC, Philippine Strategic Investment (Holdings) Ltd, CEFNA Greater China Investment and PNB-SBI Asean Gateway Investment Management Company Ltd.

After his retirement from PNB, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad was appointed as the Group Chairman of UMW Holdings Berhad. He is also Chairman of E-Lock Corporation Sdn Berhad and a director of PFM Holdings Sdn Berhad and Professional Golf of Malaysia. He also believes in giving back to society and amongst causes close to his heart are education and art. He currently serves as Chairman on the Board of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and also is a Trustee of Yayasan Karyawan and Tabung Pendidikan 1 Billion. As a poetry enthusiast, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad serves as the Patron of PENYAIR (Malaysia’s Poets Association).

He holds an Honorary Doctorate in Economics and Muamalat Administration from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and another Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Masters of Philosophy from University of Swansea, United Kingdom and a Diploma in Statistics from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. He is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia and an Honorary Fellow and Registered Financial Planner (RFP) of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council.
